Funny scam emails

Everyone gets those scam emails. The ones that used to come mainly from Nigeria but now come from many other countries. Most of those emails are really funny. I even had a long interaction with one scammer that I led along for many weeks. It was one of the funniest times of my life. You can see the transcripts of it here.

Below are some recent funny emails I have received:

Riding weekend

On Saturday I did 27 miles on the mountain bike and felt pretty good. I tool Backbone trail down to Sunset Blvd. and then back over Westridge back to Reseda. I rode late afternoon so there were very few people out on the trails which was good. I guess people would rather being doing other things on a late Saturday afternoon like going to the movies, having a BBQ or going out to dinner. But since the family is out of town it was riding for me.

On Sunday I hopped on the road bike and did 35 miles out along Mulholland Highway to Malibu Canyon and back. I felt pretty good again but I got a flat tire about 20 minutes into the ride. Annoying. On the way back I was hurtin' on the last short tough climb and what'a'know, I get another flat tire about 10 minutes from home. Annoying. The first flat appears to be from a bad Speedpatch. It was the first time I used a Speedpatch and the last. Yes, it was a really old patch but I will stick to the regular tube patches from now on. The second flat was a little thorn.

Big snake ride

Yesterday I went mountain biking on one of my favorite ride in the Santa Monica mountains. It was a late ride, 6:30 pm. I felt really good and powered up the climbs like I haven't in a long time. I did get passed by one guy after I had passed him but I stayed with him all the way to the top without straining myself. About half way up we both stopped because there was a very large rattlesnake crossing the dirt road. He was maybe about 3 or 4 feet long. One of the bigger ones I have seen in a while. Several years ago I had to jump over one at the last second as a I came around a bend and there he was.

My bike is really running good now. A few weeks ago I tuned up the rear shifting. There was no more barrel adjustment left so I undid the cable and loosened the barrel adjuster and then re-tightened the cable. Then I could do minor tuning with the barrel adjuster.

The bike had been creaking like crazy down at the BB so last weekend I purchased a bottom bracket tool and crank puller and pulled out my creaky bottom bracket, lubed it up good and reinstalled it. No the bike is smooth and quiet. Love it.

I felt so good after the last ride that I decided I will do a longer ride on Saturday. From the San Fernando Valley over the mountains and down Backbone trail all the way to Sunset Blvd. and then back again.

The map below labels Sullivan Canyon as Farmers Fire Road but it hasn't been a fire road for probably decades. It is now a killer winding narrow single track trail thrill ride.
